Newport has never settled. Neither have we. Historic homes, interiors and exteriors since 1999.
From the Gilded Age houses along Bellevue Avenue to the historic colonials on Thames Street and the waterfront homes on Ocean Drive, much of Newport's housing stock predates 1900, and a good deal of it predates 1800. Senn Painting has worked for Newport homeowners, property managers and restoration specialists since 1999.
These houses need a different method. Ornate plaster mouldings, hand-carved woodwork and original millwork call for careful preparation and hand work. Properties on Historic Hill come with their own rules, and harbor-facing walls along the Cliff Walk need coatings and primers chosen for salt and fog.
Inside, that means level walls, clean trim lines and cabinet finishes that hold up to close inspection. Outside, it means thorough preparation and weather-resistant systems that last through Newport's fog, salt spray and winter storms.
Whether the project is a Federal-period townhouse on Spring Street or a new build overlooking Brenton Point, we coordinate with your architect, designer or general contractor to keep the job on schedule.
Anything built before 1978 is assumed to have lead paint until tested otherwise. That means contained work areas, wet methods rather than dry sanding, HEPA collection and proper disposal, because the dust ends up in the soil and in the house.
A hundred and fifty years of coatings on original clapboard is not always a problem to be removed. Sometimes the right answer is to consolidate what is sound, feather the failures and recoat. Sometimes it is to take a wall back to wood. We will tell you which, and why.
Original sash is worth keeping. Failed putty, bare muntins and paint bridging the glass are why old windows get condemned and replaced. Reglazing and a proper paint line onto the glass buys decades.
In Newport's historic districts, exterior color can require review. We work to the scheme you have had approved, and we can put sample boards together while you are still deciding.
Every project includes a dedicated lead painter, a detailed written scope of work, and our written satisfaction guarantee.
Discuss Your ProjectSmooth, level walls, crisp trim lines and premium low-VOC coatings for walls, ceilings and trim.
Stripped, primed and sprayed in matte, satin or high gloss. A new kitchen finish without new cabinets, usually inside a week.
Hand-rubbed stains, multi-layer protection and careful restoration of millwork, doors, built-ins and fine woodwork.
Marine-grade coatings and thorough preparation for salt air, UV and winter moisture. Siding, trim, shutters and doors.
Spec-compliant finishes on a builder's schedule, plus glazing, accent features and custom details. Builders and architects: ask about working with us on your next project.
Roughly 85% of every project is preparation. The finish is the last few hours of work that took weeks to earn.
We visit your home, walk every surface, listen to what you want, and deliver a detailed proposal with scope and timeline.
We protect every surface, fill, sand, caulk and prime before a certified professional applies a single coat.
We walk the finished job with you and write down anything you want changed. We come back until that list is clear.

Senn Painting was founded in West Kingston, Rhode Island in 1999 by Mason Senn, on the belief that a paint job deserves the same precision and respect as any piece of fine work. Over 27 years, Mason has completed more than 200 projects across the coastal communities of southern Rhode Island.
What started as a one-man operation built on word-of-mouth referrals has grown into a team of trained finishers who hold to the same standard. Mason is still on site.

Mason Senn and his team are extremely professional, clean and go the extra mile on every detail. If your goal is to produce high quality finishes, look no further!
Mason and team at Senn painting are hands down the best of the best. Their professionalism, kindness, knowledge, and perfectionism Definitely shows. They did our kitchen and dining room, which had some stuff going on that they were able to simplify and fix. They also completely did a two bedroom house that we redid from the studs up. I highly recommend them to anyone that needs anything done. Like I said before they are the best of the best. Thank you for all you do and we hope to use you again in the future when we need our next project completed.
Brilliant work all around. The crews were on time, organized and extremely neat. Their attention to detail was exceptional. Most important there was a sense of pride in their work which made our home shine. Many thanks to the Senn Painting Company.
Senn Painting is one of the most professional companies I have ever come across. Their attention to detail is far superior to any other paint company. Their owner is onsite and diligent. I highly recommend Senn painting for anyone looking for a great periodicity with affordable pricing.
Great team, enjoyable to work with, excellent work, would hire them again without hesitating.
Very prompt and courteous! Excellent communication. Everything you could hope for in a painting company.
Newport, Middletown and Jamestown. The housing stock changes considerably across a few miles, and so does the method.
