Watch Hill doesn't follow trends. Neither do we. Coastal exteriors and interiors since 1999.
The oceanfront houses of Watch Hill, the Victorian-era homes in downtown Westerly, the beach cottages of Misquamicut and the quieter streets of Weekapaug each have their own character and their own demands. Senn Painting has worked along this shoreline since 1999.
Watch Hill's shoreline houses face some of the harshest conditions in Rhode Island: constant salt, driving rain, strong UV and the occasional nor'easter. We specify multi-layer primer and topcoat systems for this exposure, chosen to resist peeling, fading and moisture far longer than standard paint.
Inside, the work is just as careful, from Watch Hill foyers to the reading rooms of Westerly colonials: level walls, clean trim lines and cabinet finishes that hold up to close inspection. Many of our projects here involve interior designers and architects, and we're used to reading finish schedules, matching custom colors and keeping everyone informed.
Whether you're opening a Watch Hill summer house for the season, restoring a Victorian near Wilcox Park or finishing a new build along the Pawcatuck River, we bring twenty-seven years of coastal experience. We'd be glad to walk your project.
On a house facing Block Island Sound, salt arrives under pressure rather than settling out of the air. It finds every unsealed end grain and every joint that has opened a millimeter. Prime the cut ends, seal the joints, and do both properly or not at all.
Much of this coast is shingle-style, and choosing to let cedar weather gray or to hold a painted finish changes everything that follows. A painted shingle wall in this exposure needs a breathable system. Trapping moisture behind a hard film is what causes the failures you see two years later.
Summer houses are occupied when the weather is best for painting, and the shoulder seasons bring humidity off the water that lengthens cure times. We schedule around your season, and we don't rush a coat to make a date.
This shoreline takes the direct hits. A finish here is partly protection and partly a maintenance plan: knowing which walls to check each spring, and catching a failure while it is still a touch-up.
Every project includes a dedicated lead painter, a detailed written scope of work, and our written satisfaction guarantee.
Discuss Your ProjectSmooth, level walls, crisp trim lines and premium low-VOC coatings for walls, ceilings and trim.
Stripped, primed and sprayed in matte, satin or high gloss. A new kitchen finish without new cabinets, usually inside a week.
Hand-rubbed stains, multi-layer protection and careful restoration of millwork, doors, built-ins and fine woodwork.
Marine-grade coatings and thorough preparation for salt air, UV and winter moisture. Siding, trim, shutters and doors.
Spec-compliant finishes on a builder's schedule, plus glazing, accent features and custom details. Builders and architects: ask about working with us on your next project.
Roughly 85% of every project is preparation. The finish is the last few hours of work that took weeks to earn.
We visit your home, walk every surface, listen to what you want, and deliver a detailed proposal with scope and timeline.
We protect every surface, fill, sand, caulk and prime before a certified professional applies a single coat.
We walk the finished job with you and write down anything you want changed. We come back until that list is clear.

Senn Painting was founded in West Kingston, Rhode Island in 1999 by Mason Senn, on the belief that a paint job deserves the same precision and respect as any piece of fine work. Over 27 years, Mason has completed more than 200 projects across the coastal communities of southern Rhode Island.
What started as a one-man operation built on word-of-mouth referrals has grown into a team of trained finishers who hold to the same standard. Mason is still on site.

Mason and team at Senn painting are hands down the best of the best. Their professionalism, kindness, knowledge, and perfectionism Definitely shows. They did our kitchen and dining room, which had some stuff going on that they were able to simplify and fix. They also completely did a two bedroom house that we redid from the studs up. I highly recommend them to anyone that needs anything done. Like I said before they are the best of the best. Thank you for all you do and we hope to use you again in the future when we need our next project completed.
Brilliant work all around. The crews were on time, organized and extremely neat. Their attention to detail was exceptional. Most important there was a sense of pride in their work which made our home shine. Many thanks to the Senn Painting Company.
Senn Painting is one of the most professional companies I have ever come across. Their attention to detail is far superior to any other paint company. Their owner is onsite and diligent. I highly recommend Senn painting for anyone looking for a great periodicity with affordable pricing.

Very prompt and courteous! Excellent communication. Everything you could hope for in a painting company.
The shoreline villages and the town behind them. Exposure drops off sharply half a mile back from the water, and what we specify follows it.
