Between the ponds and the shore. Coastal exteriors and interiors since 1999.
Charlestown's barrier beaches, its salt ponds at Ninigret, Green Hill and Trustom, and East Beach make for a coastal environment unlike anywhere else in the state. From Cross Mills to Green Hill to Quonochontaug, each neighborhood has its own character and its own demands on a painter. Senn Painting has worked here since 1999.
Beachfront and pond-front houses take salt air, strong UV, driving rain and nor'easters. We specify multi-layer primer and topcoat systems for that exposure, chosen to resist peeling, fading and moisture damage far longer than standard paint.
Inside, that means level walls, clean trim lines and durable cabinet finishes. Many Charlestown projects involve interior designers and architects, and we're used to reading finish schedules, matching custom colors and keeping everyone informed.
Whether you're preparing a beachfront house along East Beach, restoring a saltbox near Ninigret Park or finishing a new build overlooking the ponds, we bring twenty-seven years of coastal experience. Charlestown is about fifteen minutes from our shop, so a walkthrough is easy to arrange.
Houses on pilings with open water on one side and a salt pond on the other, taking wind-driven salt from both. The parts that fail first are the ones nobody looks at: the underside of the deck framing, the stair stringers, the pile wraps. Those get primed and coated properly or the visible work is decoration.
Less sun than the beachfront and far more standing humidity. Pond-side walls stay damp long after the beach has dried, which grows mildew under the paint rather than stripping it off the top. Different primer, different washing, same amount of preparation.
Heavily shaded lots where the problem is moss and slow drying, not salt. These are the longest-lasting exteriors in town if they're washed properly, and the ones where colors chosen from a chip in bright sun look completely different on the wall.
A quote that treats all three the same is a quote written without looking. We specify by wall, and on a barrier-beach house we'll want to get underneath it before we price anything.
Every project includes a dedicated lead painter, a detailed written scope of work, and our written satisfaction guarantee.

Roughly 85% of every project is preparation. The finish is the last few hours of work that took weeks to earn.
We visit your home, walk every surface, listen to what you want, and deliver a detailed proposal with scope and timeline.
We protect every surface, fill, sand, caulk and prime before a certified professional applies a single coat.
We walk the finished job with you and write down anything you want changed. We come back until that list is clear.

Senn Painting was founded in West Kingston, Rhode Island in 1999 by Mason Senn, on the belief that a paint job deserves the same precision and respect as any piece of fine work. Over 27 years, Mason has completed more than 200 projects across the coastal communities of southern Rhode Island.
What started as a one-man operation built on word-of-mouth referrals has grown into a team of trained finishers who hold to the same standard. Mason is still on site.

Mason and team at Senn painting are hands down the best of the best. Their professionalism, kindness, knowledge, and perfectionism Definitely shows. They did our kitchen and dining room, which had some stuff going on that they were able to simplify and fix. They also completely did a two bedroom house that we redid from the studs up. I highly recommend them to anyone that needs anything done. Like I said before they are the best of the best. Thank you for all you do and we hope to use you again in the future when we need our next project completed.
Brilliant work all around. The crews were on time, organized and extremely neat. Their attention to detail was exceptional. Most important there was a sense of pride in their work which made our home shine. Many thanks to the Senn Painting Company.
